Now moving on to this week's Talk Time Tuesday Post......

Our first question comes from Kris S who says, "Hi Jo, For someone like me who is just starting out with scrapbooking and card making I wish sometimes when I look at others work that my projects would turn out like theirs. What can you recommend for me to do too help me advance in my skills in card making and scrapbooking"

Hello Kris!
Excellent question! Let me first start off by saying that  we are our own worst critics! We can look at our work and judge our work harshly and what you need to understand first, is that your work is truly a work of art. There is no certain way to create nor is there a right or wrong way to do it. Starting out at a beginner level is overwhelming because there are so many tools, techniques and styles out there and you wonder to yourself, 'Where do I start?'.

My advice to you is this...
Continue creating! Watch some videos on YouTube on certain techniques that catch your eye. Take the plunge and do one of the many challenges that are out there on the web. Challenges are just that! A challenge! It will challenge you to think outside the box! Start to follow some blogs that are similar to your style and follow along on some step by step tutorials to create something out of your comfort zone or take a class on something that you have never tried before. By doing this, you are not only learning something new but you are giving your creative side a chance to explore with new products and from their, the possibilities are endless. I hope this has answered your question and I look forward to seeing what you create!

Our next question comes from Georgiana who asks,
"How cool that you have all those machines...where do you keep them all?"

Hi Georgiana!
My pazzles inspiration machine sits on my computer desk right next to my computer. I have another table that is 4 inches long that holds my cricut expression and my cricut imagine side by side. The table is big enough so that I am able to use both machines at the same time if I wanted to, with enough space for both. My Ebosser sits on a small table that I got from Ikea which sits right next to my work station desk.
All my other machines, the original sizzix, the sizzix sidekick, the xyron personal die cutting machine and the cuttlebugs sit in my closet on a bookcase. I rarely use these machines so I have them put away and out of sight. I plan on doing a craft room tour soon so be on the look out for this post so that you can see exactly where my machines are and how my room is set up to work for me! I hope this answered your question and I hope to hear from you again soon!

Well my friends that is all I have for you for today. As a reminder, there is still time to enter for this week's Funday Friday Challenge#2. Until next time, enjoy life's blessings! Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Great questions and answers again this week. I agree when looking at our own work we can be our own worst critic. I know that I continue to grow and improve by checking out many other creative peoples blogs etc. Just take a look at our design teams work and those that enter the Funday Friday Challenges - loads of creativity and inspiration in that small group. xx

    1. Kellie I have to say that everyone is their own worst critic when it comes to their work. I do not think this is something that can be changed as we all have our doubts when indeed our work is truly a beautiful work of art that comes from our hearts. And I also agree that there is a ton of inspiration out there among the many blogs and our design team!

      Hugs,
      Jo

  5. So sorry to hear you're not feeling up to par, and hope this will soon change for the better. And big congratulations to the winners. I enjoyed reading the question, and I was amused at Kris' question, because I feel exactly the same. I liked your answer. Less experienced stampers/cardmakers/etc are always a bit intimidated by the awesome talent we see on these blogs, and speaking for myself, it makes me a bit shy about sharing anything I create. I've learned so much, from so many generous & talented folks who offer suggestions, support, encouragement, and I think I'm getting better about the intimidation factor. One thing I would add to your answer, is: Don't feel you are competing with those more skillful, but just do the best you can to improve what you do. The improvement comes with (1)seeing other work from those who are above your own skill level (2)Doing the best you can on your own project (3)trying to be objective if a fellow blogger offers constructive critique on it. That's how I feel I have grown a bit. Not sure if this works for anyone else. Everyone has to start somewhere. Some have a 'gift' for it, some of us have to 'just work at it' (me!). It's the fun that matters, making new friends, and improving your knowledge & abilities. Thanks for sharing and making the challenge possible. Hugs

    1. Mary thank you for this wonderful post! I agree with you that people, especially new beginners; should just do their best work and have fun doing it. I know that Kris and You are not alone in how you feel. I am sure there are many out there who aren't speaking up. Even I get intimidated from time to time by other's work but I don't tell myself that I cannot do beautiful work like those instead, I do my best to recreate what I see and I usually do an awesome job of it. I encourage you, Kris and anyone else out there who gets intimidated by another's work to actually try to recreate their project and see how ya do. You would be surprised at how beautiful and similar your creations would be to theirs. Continue creating my friend!

      Hugs,
      Jo
